Day 13

Little Big Horn Battlefield

Leaving Katie and Bob’s we drove east to the Little Bighorn Battlefield to see the sight of Custer’s Last Stand,

the ancient visitor center

Jakobi where Custer fell.

Beautiful Indian Memorial

The gals collected yet another Jr. Ranger Badge.

Devil’s Tower National Monument

We continued east and south in Wyoming arriving at Devil’s Tower at sunset. Colleen was determined to hike around it and it was dark halfway around and welost the trail for a bit and had forgotten our headlamps but cooler heads prevailed and we made it out under a clear star studded sky.

According to several native traditions the tower is a giant tree stump scarred by bear claws made when seven sisters sought refuge upon it when chased by the bear. the great spirit took pity upon the girls and lifted them into the sky where they became the Pleiades star cluster or maybe the 7 stars in the Big Dipper according to others.

Montana

Bozeman Montana

We drove through a pretty big snowstorm up and over Teton Pass and past Big Sky arriving at my sister Katie’s house at 2:45am on Saturday. Somehow everyone but Bob and Maya were soon awake and greeting us so we did not get some sleep until after 4am.

It was beautiful and sunny but very cold and we spent the first day sledding and enjoying the big open sky and ring of mountains.

My sister Susanna flew in from California to spend some time with us!

1st sledding of the season!

Jakobi, Maya and Ambiana

Susanna’s high school friend, Beth Hahn who lives in Missoula came and visited us on Sunday and we all went to the Bozeman (indoor) Hot Springs for an afternoon soak!.

Fiona, Drew, Gus and Beth!

Grandma is now living with Katie and it was nice to see her again. She has a nice downstairs bedroom with easy access to the garage and outside were she can smoke and even has made a friend across the street to share smokebreaks with!

Museum of the Rockies

We visited the Museum of the Rockies on Monday and got to see Big Mike. I have had a T-shirt with Big Mike on it for several years so it was nice to meet him in person!

Triceratops!

The gals try fly fishing!

and become birds!

It was really nice to visit Katie and Bob’s home for the first time, we enjoyed their lovely company and yummy meals
