Back at the car I changed out of my woollies and boots which were miserable to hike in and put on my insulated pants and sneakers. Ambiana, our navigator programmed the GPS with our next destination and with the Bjork playlist over we turned on the FM radio and listened to the local Icelandic stations. So fun to listen to Icelandic tunes and chatter mixed with American Pop songs as we drove the 35 minutes to the next stop on The Gold Circle: Geysir; a geothermal area with lots of steaming vents, bubbling pools, and erupting hot springs . Fun Fact: geysers worldwide get their name from the erupting hot spring at this spot called Geysir which comes from the Icelandic word geysa <\/strong><\/em>which means \u201cto gush\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n

We parked at the enormous gift shop\/restaurant (no parking fee here!) and Colleen broke out her new alcohol fueled stove and made us Potato Leek Soup on a bench out front where we could see the erupting Geysir across the road. Ambiana & Jakobi were embarrassed by her cooking so they went to browse the gift shop.<\/p>\n\n\n

Ambiana found 40,800K sheep skin hat that she liked. <\/p>\n\n\n

Embarrassed or not they ate the soup when it was ready and then we crossed the road and wandered the paths besides the steaming vents and bubbling pots.<\/p>\n\n\n

We joined the horde with their phones out around Geysir ready to capture it erupt! <\/p>\n\n\n

Jakobi got the best shot of all of us.<\/p>\n\n\n

I wanted to hike up to a rocky lookout but no one else did so this became the first thing added to the \u201cWhen Colleen and I Come Back List\u201d <\/strong><\/em>If this is non-peak tourist time I would not want to be here during peak season. There are hundreds of people here around the Geysir and hot springs and we are seeing a lot of the same people we were walking the rift with at Pingvellir. No doubt they will be at the next stop as well. <\/p>\n\n\n

We made some more short videos of us dancing for our Icelandic Family Dance Video and wandered among the hot springs and mud pots enjoying the pallet of colors contained in the soil around them and savoring the warm sun that was now out.<\/p>\n\n\n
